Arrived at this square (well semi-circular piazza) near the train station and the hotel around seven o'clock. The semi circular shape is apparently because this was once an exedra, part of the huge complex of the third century baths of Diocletian. The terminus of Via Nazionale this turned out to be a rather impressive curved arcade contains a number of nice shops, a luxury hotel or two, a bank with a non-sketchy ATM (yay!) and a McDonald's...(uh? Ok).
The straight side of the piazza holds the baths of Diocletian and the church of Santa Maria Degli Angeli e Dei Martiri, while the center contains the (once controversial) fountain of the Naiads. More on those next post. Just wanted to share these pictures of the piazza at night with all the Christmas lights on, because it made me smile.
